Vaccines have prevented more than 29 million hospitalizations and 1 million deaths for U.S. children born in the last 25 years.* However, vaccine misinformation remains a threat to public health.
During the last 5 years, the AAFP and CDC implemented the Improving Adult Immunization Rates Among Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations project by developing strategies, tools and resources to effectively increase and improve vaccination rates among adults from those populations.
The information and outcomes demonstrate that the continuity of care provided by physicians and other health care team members within family medicine practices makes them ideally suited to address the many challenges and barriers that impact adult vaccination rates, especially among historically marginalized populations and those underserved by the health care system.
